Francisco Carrión

Francisco Carrión (Granada, 1986) is a journalist for El Independiente. During the last decade he was a correspondent of the newspaper El Mundo in Cairo. Since 2011, he has reported from Egypt on the most dramatic years in the history of this Arab country. For his work and his stories, he has received some twenty awards, among others, the Young Journalist of the Year Award of the Press Association of Madrid -formerly the Premio Larra; the Young Communication Award of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid; the Tiflos Journalism Award granted by the ONCE Foundation; the Colombine of the Press Association of Almería; the Manuel Alcántara of the Universidad de Malaga; and the Manuel Azaña of Alcalá de Henares. In 2021 he was a finalist for the Cirilo Rodríguez Award, Spain’s most prestigious award dedicated to correspondents and special envoys. Over this past decade, he has penned exclusive reports that have had international repurcussions.
