Geoffrey Parker (Reino Unido, 1943) is one of the greatest scholars of Spain in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. A professor at Ohio State University, he has previously worked at the University of Illinois and Yale, the University of British Columbia, and Saint Andrews University in Scotland. He is the author of thirty-seven books, among them The Army of Flanders and the Path of Spain (1991), Philip II’s Grand Strategy (1998), The Crisis of the Monarchy of Philip V (2006), The Thirty Years’ War (2007), History of War (2010), Philip II: The Definitive Biography (2010) and The Grand Armada (2011), the last two of which were published by Planeta. He is a Member of the Royal Spanish American Academy of Sciences, Arts, and Letters of Cadiz and has received the Great Cross of the Order of Isabella the Catholic and the Great Cross of the Order of Alfonso X The Wise. In 2012 he received the Heineken Prize for History.

A student of the master John H. Elliott, he is a specialist in the modern era in Spain, and his books, like Philip II and The Army of Flanders and the Path of Spain have become indispensable references for anyone interested in studying the country’s history. The combination of rigorous investigative work and a unique narrative mastery have made his works favorites of experts and amateurs alike. The apparent simplicity with which he narrates significant episodes in history and his ability to bring characters to life for readers have made his studies moving tales that are impossible to put down.
