Roberta Marrero

Roberta Marrero (Las Palmas, 1972) is a Spanish artist whose work draws from many sources, from religious imagery to comics, from mass culture and Hollywood stars to American independent cinema, from politics to identity and her own biography. Her works have taken part in exhibitions such as David Bowie is at the Victoria & Albert in London, Piaf, an exhibition that celebrated the centenary of Edith Piaf’s birth at the National Library in Paris and Transversées ren@rde at the Le Transpalette Centre dArt in Bourges, also in France. She has had solo exhibitions in Madrid and Barcelona, in the galleries La Fiambrera and Chrome. Andy Warhol’s legendary Factory star, Joe Dallesandro, chose one of her works as the subject of a limited edition of t-shirts he produced himself. She lectures on her work both in Spain and in different European countries. She is the author of El bebé verde. Infancia, transexualidad y héroes del pop (Lunwerg, 2016).
