Disney princesses and Hollywood movies are just some of the many points of reference that have led women around the world to believe that they must have a soul mate. That’s why, if they find it, they have to cling to that love come what may, dedicating all their time, energy, unconditional love, and devotion to it. And we do this because society tells us that, without the love of a partner, a woman’s happiness cannot be complete.
Valenzuela introduces the concept of romantic love and breaks it down to demonstrate that “the experience and feeling that we’ve always been taught is something so good and beautiful can put us in an extremely unequal position.”
The book invites us to think critically to find a different kind of love, one that is based on the construction of a safe space, and is based on reciprocity, trust, empathy and mutual respect and to seek “a love that is built on freedom and
